Welcome
With the emails and Facebook messages I’ve been getting about senior sessions, it looks like SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION!!!! Seniors, this is YOUR year and I’m so EXCITED to see what awesome ideas the class of 2014 comes up with for their Senior Portraits! I truly, truly believe that the absolute BEST thing you can do for your senior portraits is to personalize your session. To help with this, all of my seniors are asked what they like to do, where they like to hang out, and what kind of activities they participate in. The answers usually determine where your senior portrait session takes place and what props are in the photos.
For example, Tessa (who, yes, is my cousin, and, yes, we shot this session a while ago, but I never posted these – so sorry!!) is a country girl. She practically lives in her boots (the night of her graduation, there was actually quite the upset when her new pair didn’t arrive in time for the ceremony. Yes, she wanted to wear cowgirl boots under her graduation robe!!). She participates in FFA and raises chickens. It would not make sense to shoot her senior portraits in a grungy garage (which, however, would be an ideal location for a punk-rocker personality OR juxtaposed with a ballerina). As a photographer who may never have met the senior before, it is important for me to know a little bit about you before we decide on a location (or wardrobe or props).
For Tessa, we chose a rustic/country location. Her background was an old, red barn, tin, and trees. A prop in her photos is a broken down, vintage truck, which she was SUPER excited about! She had actually been looking for a truck just like this for her portraits, but was never able to find one. If I didn’t know enough about Tessa to know that she was a country girl, I would have never photographed her with the truck and maybe picked a different location for her that would not have been as fitting. This means, her personality wouldn’t be reflected in the photos and they would lose their significance. The whole purpose of Senior Portraits is to capture who you are today and what you love the most about your life.
If you put just a little bit of thought into who you are today and what you’re passionate about, together we can brainstorm up the PERFECT shoot for you! Promise!
And, without further ado, THIS is Tessa!!
Ok, Class of 2014, I want to hear what YOU are envisioning for your Senior Portraits! The sky is the limit!
