Welcome
While most people may be unwrapping Christmas presents today, I’ve been taking hammers, saws, screwdrivers and paintbrushes to my Christmas present for the last few weeks. This year, Dylan and I bought each other the exact same thing for Christmas: A HOUSE! Knowing that our new home wouldn’t be completely ready in time for Christmas morning, I somehow convinced my dear husband to let me put up the Christmas tree and other decorations around our old home the week before Thanksgiving. I really love our Christmas decorations and couldn’t stand the thought of not putting anything up all year.
Growing up, I didn’t like decorating for Christmas because I felt like I always got stuck putting everything up. There was even a year that my sister partially put up our tree, but had to leave for work before she could finish. When I got home, I immediately took it all down and boxed it away. I was called the Grinch several times that year, but I didn’t want to be the only one who would decorate and (more annoyingly to my teenage self) clean up afterward.
Quite on the other end of the spectrum, my husband’s family ALWAYS decorated the entire house! Every empty space in his parents’ home is covered in Christmas decorations and his mom is often asked to decorate other people’s houses. They even have a living tree in the backyard that gets lights! Here is a photo of the tree a few years ago in the snow:
As you probably guessed, decorating our home for Christmas has always been important to Dylan and we really enjoy it! Here is a peek into what our home looks like around this time of year:
(I’m not really sure why our tree has a “gansta lean”)
We haven’t added anything new to our Christmas decorations this year, but some very sweet people have given us some ornaments to remember 2012. Can you guess which came from a client and which came from a fellow photographer?
Merry Christmas to you and yours,
Mylah Renae (Austin Photographer)
