Welcome
Dylan and I have this thing for food. More specifically, food that comes to mind when you think about Texas summers: BBQ and Tex-Mex! On our very first “official” date ( I say “official” because this is when Dylan asked me to be his girlfriend), he bought me brisket at the Fort Worth Stockyards before going to the Red Dirt Roundup concert.
Since then, we’ve always tried to go to new BBQ joints anywhere we go. We even went to Snow’s BBQ in Lexington at 8AM for BBQ one Saturday morning. (Yes, we were there at 8AM which means we had to be up WAY TOO EARLY on a Saturday.) No, it really isn’t the same as a breakfast item, although Dylan may disagree, being the “meat-atarian” that he is.
When Texas Monthly named it’s top 50 BBQ joints in Texas this year, we knew our list just got serious. This week, we took the short drive to Louie Mueller’s in Taylor. To round out the top 4 (having already visited Snow’s), we still need to visit Franklin’s in Austin and Pecan Lodge in Dallas. Both of which, we hope to have tried before the end of this summer. We’ll keep you posted on our personal favorites (which is hard since we name a winner for each meat, side, and an overall winner. And, yes, we buy a TON of food each time we go to a new BBQ joint). Thank you, Texas Monthly, for the new challenge!
Other summer-time loves: Salsa and Margaritas. There is actually a Salsa and Margarita Festival!!! This makes my heart pitter-patter, then sadden as it is TODAY and Dylan and I are both working. :( On a brighter note, the Hot Sauce Festival in Austin, TX is happening TOMORROW!! Dylan and I have gone to this before and LOVED it! We tried quite the collection of salsas and took home a few goodies, as well. My one tip is to make sure you take plenty of water!
And, since we’re already talking about lists and places to try, my next list is going to be Coffee! I love trying new coffee spots and have already visited some of the top 10 coffee joints in Austin and am so excited that I came across this list today!
Here’s to trying new things!
