Welcome
After our anniversary trip to Fredericksburg, Dylan and I drove up to Dallas to adopt another family member. Our 2nd baby was as snuggly as they come and as naughty as you could expect!
His favorite thing is giving kisses! Seriously, anytime he can lick your face, he will!
Lola wasn’t a fan of his affections, at first, because immediately after the kisses, he would bite you! Those sharp little baby teeth HURT, too! For the first week, we couldn’t name him. We went through every name and even looked up a baby boys’ name list! Nothing fit! Dylan wouldn’t let me call him “Count” or “Drac” after Count Dracula (since he bit so much), as he thought that would scare people when this little cutie grows up to be a full-grown Great Dane! After a week with having him in the house calling him “Little Foot” (and even putting that on the official paperwork at the vet since I couldn’t stand the thought of him being “Unnamed” in their system), we finally decided to go back to the very first name we agreed on BEFORE we ever met our little stud: Lucchese (after the boot brand)! For those of you unfamiliar with it, you pronounce it “Lou-Casey.”Lucchese is three and a half months old! With our time with him, we’ve learned that girls are VERY different from boys! With Lola, we never had to worry about digging. Lucchese is set on digging his way to China! Lola was always an indoor baby and would hold her bladder as long as she could if it was raining outside. Lucchese would rather spend his day outside, even if it is cold AND raining – we sometimes have to bait him to come inside, seriously! Lola prefers to nap on the couch or in our bed. Lucchese would rather be on the floor. Lola ALWAYS submits to the other dog, regardless of size or age. It’s just her sweet demeanor! Lucchese thinks he’s the big man on campus! While we haven’t had him around too many other dogs since he hasn’t finished his shots just yet, he thinks he’s dominate over Lola! We never had a problem with Lola chewing. Lucchese tries to get anything and everything between his teeth!
Lucchese came practically potty trained, which was SUCH a blessing. He only has accidents (as most dogs do), if we’re not quite fast enough with getting the door open.
The first week we had him, Lola was ready to take him back to the place we picked him up at! She was all sorts of jealous and guarded her food bowl (which she had NEVER done before) a couple times with him. A few days later, he somehow managed to become the dominate one of the two of them. He would ALWAYS bite her and she did absolutely NOTHING about it. She, within the last week or so, has finally decided that he should be old enough to know better! They’ve started to really play together (which will be so bad for our house when they get older) and chase each other around the coffee table. Lola is still pretty gentle, but has officially started to tug back on toys! She used to just hold them and let him tug his little heart out. They always want to eat the others’ food, even if they have a full bowl of their own. They always want the toy the other one has, even if it’s the same toy (we have two antlers and two rawhide bones that were bought at the same time). It’s funny to watch them try to steal the other one’s toy when they’re playing. We have truly enjoyed watching them play together! They have almost become inseparable. If one is napping, the other is right next to him/her. If one goes to the bathroom, the other goes, too.
Lucchese loves to snuggle! Especially if he can be in full-body contact with you! He wags his tail more than any dog I’ve seen! He is always wagging his tail! He has learned how to climb on the couch, but still hasn’t figured out how to jump just yet. He hops with his front legs, but his back legs never leave the ground. He eats sitting down instead of standing like most dogs. He has started to team up with Lola about barking anytime someone crosses the street or when their daddy gets home. He doesn’t sleep under my desk anymore, like he did the first two weeks he was home. He does, however, still sneak up under it and SCARES me with his little wet nose. We can hear Lola coming, but he’s still small enough that he doesn’t make any noise when he moves. He doesn’t wake Dylan up at 4:30AM anymore with baby bites to the back – he never got me, just Dylan. HA!
If you want to see even more pictures of Lucchese (including him snuggling with Lola), head on over to my Instagram account. I’ve posted some of him being cute and some of him being naughty!
