I'm Mylah, a wedding photographer based in Austin, Texas, capturing timeless and intentional memories that celebrate marriage.
Welcome
Laura and Garrett met at The University of Texas. She was a freshman and was joining a Business Club. Garrett was her “big brother” in the club. They spent lots of time together and soon their friendship grew into a dating relationship.
Just after Laura graduated, she joined the annual team that rides bikes from Austin to Alaska. I believe it was for the Texas 4000, which raises awareness and gives financial support to the fight against cancer. At the end of her 4,000 mile bike ride, Laura turned to see Garrett. This was a surprise to her, as Garrett had told her he had made prior commitments that couldn’t be changed, so she wasn’t expecting him to be at the end of the journey. It took her a moment to realize that he was there and what that might mean. Garrett got down on one knee, with Laura’s family nearby, and asked her to marry him. She said yes and the two spent the next 10 days exploring Alaska as an engaged couple.
They wanted to have their engagement session in the city where it all started: Austin, Texas! Their Butler Park engagement photos included a stop at at The Long Center, a spot overlooking Ladybird Lake, the splash pad, and the Doug Sahm Hill.
What a model face, Laura!!
There were times in their relationship when one would have to travel without the other. During the first stretch when Garrett lived overseas, Laura had asked him if they should get something to remind them of each other. She was a bit surprised when he agreed, but, soon after, these adorable giraffes were purchased. Garrett took the giraffe with the bow with him and took pictures of it, so Laura could see where he had been and live vicariously through the giraffe. Laura did the same thing for Garrett. These giraffes have since gone on any vacation that they take and have been photographed in many places.
Laura’s grandmother made each of her granddaughters (Laura and her sisters) a blanket when they graduated. Laura brought that same sentimental blanket with her to their Butler Park engagement photos. This next shot is a special shot specific for Laura’s grandmother!
Laura and Garrett – thank you so much for making the drive in from Houston for your Butler Park engagement photos! I had an absolute blast with y’all and am so impressed that y’all chose to spend part of your birthday weekend with me! Thank you! I’m so excited for y’all’s wedding and can’t wait to see y’all, again, at the bridal session!
