There’s something magical about late September in Austin. It’s the start of fall wedding season, when the air turns crisp, the colors deepen, and love stories like Laura and Justin’s come to life. Their Hummingbird House wedding was vibrant, emotional, and full of personality. It was a day that felt like them in every detail.
I first met Laura when she was the Maid of Honor at her sister’s Colorado wedding in 2022. Photographing both sisters’ weddings has been such an honor. During her toast this year, Laura’s sister joked that it was nice to “finally have a brother,” though Justin had felt like family for years. After six years together, this wedding day was simply a joyful celebration of what everyone already knew: they were meant to be.

Before getting dressed, Laura and Justin shared private vows in their pajamas. It wasn’t a traditional first look, but it was such a grounding, intimate moment for both of them. These quiet exchanges often become a couple’s favorite memory from the day, and it helped them relax before the excitement began.
Laura and Justin’s color palette was a mix of greens, creams, gold, mauve, and purple. It was a trendy take on a vintage vibe that fit perfectly at Hummingbird House. Her Ricca Sposa gown from Blush Bridal Lounge featured a stunning basque waistline that flattered her figure beautifully. The bridesmaids each chose mix-matched dresses in complementary tones. It’s one of my favorite wedding trends because it lets every woman pick a color and silhouette that makes her feel confident.
The ceremony began at 5:30 PM, about two hours before sunset. That timing was perfect at Hummingbird House. The tall trees filter the sun beautifully, but once the light drops, it goes fast. During their vows, the sunlight softened into a golden glow without harsh patches or squinting faces. By the first kiss, the light was absolute perfection.
One of the most touching details was a framed portrait of Justin’s best friend, who has passed away. His photo stood with the groomsmen, honoring his presence. Their niece, who isn’t walking yet, stole the show when she cruised down the aisle in a remote-control car as the flower girl. It was such a fun moment.
Tucked quietly in South Austin, Hummingbird House feels like a secret garden venue. It’s surrounded by tropical landscaping, shady oak trees, and a central courtyard perfect for portraits. Couples love its lush greenery, built-in floral backdrops, and the convenience of being only 15 minutes from downtown Austin. It’s one of those venues that feels private and peaceful but still close to everything.

I’m still not quite sure how they ended up on the ground, but we leaned all the way in! I think I asked Justin to give Laura a hug and one of them may have been on her dress and the balance was off, but it happened. She laughed the whole way down because she has the best attitude and he protected her to make sure she was ok. Then, they made out on the ground and we leaned into it with some unique poses that aren’t really seen at real weddings. This couple is just the coolest, so they said yes and I think it fits their personalites!
After the ceremony, we took newlywed portraits by the fountain, which Dream Events had transformed with fresh flowers. It was a romantic backdrop surrounded by lush greenery. Laura had a stunning veil, so of course we had to let it have it’s moment! If you’re one of my brides and want swooping veil photos or under the veil images, be sure to get a cathedral length veil like Laura!
A floor-length gold mirror displayed their seating chart, and guests enjoyed miniature desserts from Sweet Treets throughout the evening. The night ended with a bubble exit.

If you’re touring Austin wedding venues, here’s where to find this hidden gem! It’s tucked away at 12805 Arroyo Doble Dr in Manchaca, Texas. Located just south of downtown, it’s easily accessible from I-35. The venue features lush gardens, a central fountain, and multiple ceremony options that photograph beautifully.
The best light is about two hours before sunset. Our 5:30 PM ceremony time in late September was perfect—no squinting or harsh light, just soft golden glow.
The venue can accommodate about 175 guests comfortably for an outdoor ceremony and reception.
Yes! With mature trees, gardens, and covered areas, it’s one of Austin’s best outdoor wedding venues and feels like one of Austin’s best kept secrets.
Fall and spring offer mild weather and vibrant foliage, perfect for photos and guest comfort.
Look for a photographer who knows how to handle shade and dappled light under trees. Experience with outdoor Austin venues makes a big difference.
