Welcome
Last weekend, a new lens arrived at my doorstep! It was the Nikon 24-70mm/f2.8! While I couldn’t be more excited to have it as an addition to my lens collection, it is majorly different from my other lens in that it is a zoom lens. All of the other lens that I normally shoot with are prime lenses, which means the only way to get closer to the subject is to use the little things attached at the end of your legs and WALK! If I’ve photographed you before, you may have heard “ok, stay there” as I booked it from a tight, middle, to wide shot. Now, with this new lens, I have the option to zoom in. Let me repeat that: I HAVE THE OPTION TO ZOOM IN!!!
Instead of using the lens for the first time at Saturday’s wedding (which could have been disastrous if there was anything wrong with the lens….), I put a call out on Facebook for models who were available on Friday night. The lens arrived Friday afternoon, or I would have tried to get in a few more shoots to be even more comfortable with the lens. There were a TON of friends who responded and I couldn’t be more happy with all the love and support that everyone shows me. Seriously, THANK YOU!
One of the sweet friends who responded was Haley’s mom, who goes to the same church that Dylan and I attend. We briefly chatted about what kind of shoot Haley would want and they gave me absolute freedom in location. We headed to downtown Georgetown on Friday night and found some cool nooks/crannies in which the light was gorgeous to photograph in. Here is a quick peek at some of the shots we were able to capture for Haley:
If you’re not familiar with the term “Tight, Middle, Wide” for photographers. It basically means get a tight (up-close) shot, then get the Middle shot (so there is a bit more space on either side of your subject), and end with the wide shot (that gives the big picture of the subject and his/her environment). The next three photos are an example of a tight, middle, wide shot progression.
I cannot get over the connection in the eyes that came so naturally for Haley! It is photographer’s gold, really! What’s even more is that this was her first time infront of the camera!
It took me several tries to remember that my lens could zoom. Old habits die hard! I’m so used to walking towards clients to get tighter shots that I did it with the zoom lens on!
Haley, THANK YOU for letting me photograph you on such short notice. Thank you for being willing and available to let me try out my new lens during your session! You’re a beautiful girl, inside and out, and I know that GOD has great plans in store for your future!
