Welcome
Last Friday, I was in my sister’s garage explaining an idea I had. She just so happened to be throwing out the very thing I needed for my idea: Window Frames! As a recycling-activist, she let me load up her dumpster-bound window frames into my car to create something new.
Here is what they looked like when I picked them up:
With some very skilled helpers, we sanded them down, leaving only a touch of the alligator-scale-looking paint:
Painted them turquoise, as my husband and I have decided that’s a good color for our home decor. Since the wood was rather old and dry, it took the paint extremely well. We left it on for 5 minutes before wiping it:
Left them out to dry for a few hours before waxing them with this awesome-ness:
Measured the frames and divided them into three sections each direction, to keep the look of a window:
Drilled holes where we had marked each section with a sharpie (notice that the holes are on the back side, so are not visible from the front. We determined the back/front side based on where the glass had previously been, as an indention was still present):
We tied wire around a screw before attaching it to the frame, leaving an inch of wire to be wrapped around the second screw:
Attached teethed brackets on the back of the frame so we could hang them:
To attach pictures to the frames, we decided to use clothespins. They looked too new for our frames, so we took them apart and rubbed Harrell’s antiqueing wax all over them:
After wiping the wax off and putting the pins back together, we got this:
Hung it on our wall:
After deciding which pictures to print, we scattered them on the frame and got the following:
I really love these frames and think they may be great thank-you gifts!!
