Your venue isn’t just for the big day. Using it for your engagement session ties everything together and gives your gallery beautiful cohesion. Most wedding venues include a portrait session along with the rental, as long as they don’t have an event that day, so there isn’t a hidden fee.
Pro Tip: You’re already emotionally connected to the space, so it instantly feels more meaningful and relaxed (and parking is onsite and included).

Golden hour—an hour before sunset—is ideal, so time your session to start 1.5 hours before sunset on your session date. The light is soft, flattering, and adds warmth to your photos. If it’s Summer, you may want to consider sunrise to avoid the Texas heat. Always plan to arrive 15-30 minutes early in case of traffic or construction delays.
Some locations, like Laguna Gloria, require advance permission and a photography fee. Always check ahead.
Choose outfits that reflect your style, but avoid neon colors and busy patterns, as they create wonky optical illusions in camera. Neutral or soft colors photograph beautifully at most Austin locations. Opt to wear coordinating colors instead of trying to match perfectly.
Most couples stick to one or two nearby spots. It keeps the session relaxed and allows more time for natural, meaningful photos. Just remember: more time in the car driving means less time in front of the camera which means less images created.
Absolutely! Many Austin spots are pet-friendly. Just check in advance and bring treats, water, a leash, and a friend to take care of them. Bonus points when they get a dress up moment, too!
